Lost & Found

If you have lost or found an animal, here's what to do:

1. Act quickly!

2. If the Found animal is wearing a rabies tag
call the phone number on the tag first.

3. Have a Found animal scanned for a microchip
at the Humane Society, Animal Shelter or veterinarian’s office. This could quickly lead you to the owner. If you have Lost an animal, contact the Humane Society, Animal Shelter, and all local veterinarian office’s to give them your pet’s description as well as their microchip number if they have one.

4. Call and/or visit the Murray/Calloway County Animal Shelter at (270) 759-4141.

5. For either Lost or Found pets, email the pet’s photo*
description (approximate size, gender, color, distinguishing marks or features) and contact numbers to the Humane Society at humanesociety@murray-ky.net, along with any other pertinent information. The Humane Society will submit all of the available information as a post on their social media pages which reach more than 2,000 people in the area.

6. Call Murray Ledger & Times
at (270) 753-1916 (or fax 753-1927) to run a free classified ad for one day.

7. Call or visit local veterinarian offices:

8. Prepare a flier
include a photo, description (approximate size, gender, color, distinguishing marks or features) and contact numbers to call with any information. You can use this Lost Pet Template file.

Post fliers at veterinarian offices, the animal shelter, Humane Society and local businesses. Distribute fliers to homes throughout the neighborhood where the pet was lost or found, the mail person and neighborhood businesses.
