Dog Adoption Program

More than 200 rescued dogs from the animal shelter and community were given comprehensive vet care, placed in approved foster homes and adopted directly into forever homes or placed in a rescue this past year through the Humane Society’s dog adoption program.

If you are interested in adopting one of the dogs in our foster program, the first step is to complete our one-page application (see link below) and return to us via email or by mail or drop it by our office.

Adoption is not a first-come process. When we receive your application, a volunteer adoption counselor will contact you to discuss if this dog is the best match for you and your family. Our goal is to find the best FOREVER home for each dog.

We process all the applications for a single dog at once. During that time, we take the dog off the website and place it on adoption-pending status until a decision is made. If a suitable home is not found, the dog returns to active status.

The dog adoption process usually takes about two weeks since we are a small group of volunteers who have full time jobs.

We do not fly or ship our dogs due to heat/cold concerns and safety issues. If you are willing to fly to us and then fly the dog back in the cabin (considering size restrictions) with you, that would be considered.

If you apply to adopt a dog and are chosen, you must come to Murray, Kentucky, to pick up the dog and fill out the adoption paperwork in person.

We do adopt out-of-state, but we do not transport.

We can't provide individual "meet and greet" sessions for each applicant. If chosen to adopt, you will have an opportunity to visit with the dog before signing any paperwork and will not be committed to adopt if you choose not to at that time.

The number of dogs that we are able to pull from the local animal shelter is directly related to the number of foster homes we have available. If you are interested in being a foster home, please read and complete our Foster Home Application. We would love to talk to you!
